Baked Tuna with Tomato, Basil, and Olives

Makes 4 servings

1 pound (about 4 medium) tomatoes, chopped
2 tablespoons capers
½ cup pitted kalamata olives, chopped
1 bunch fresh basil
Salt and freshly ground pepper
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
4 (1-inch thick) albacore tuna steaks (about 2 pounds)

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Toss the tomatoes, capers, olives, basil, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  3. Pour the olive oil into a 9-by-13-inch baking dish and spread evenly. Lay the pieces of tuna in the pan, turning them to coat evenly with oil. Distribute the tomato mixture on top of the tuna. Bake for about 25 minutes, or until the fish is baked through and the vegetables have softened and begun to release their juices.
